The smart and sustainable growth of Europe’s regions is crucial to promote the single market and to attract the necessary resources, such as investments and talents, and thereby to boost the EU’s global competitiveness, innovation, industry and job creation.
On Thursday, 10 October 2024, over 100 participants attended in person and online the high-level political workshop at the Committee of the Regions named “Empowering communities by attracting investments and talents for sustainable growth and cohesion”. A debate followed the insightful presentations.
The workshop discussed diverse policies, e.g. state aid, and strategies that regions use to attract and retain business and talents, and, thus, to master the demographic, digital and green transition leading to regional cohesion.

In order to prevent a repeat of the structural upheavals that occurred after the political transition in 1990, financial and time resources are needed to shape the regional transformation.
