European Week of Regions and Cities

Digital resilience in storms: how transnational cooperation keeps Europe’s water safety systems strong and climate ready.

When severe storms occur, the threat lies not only in rising water levels, but also in hidden vulnerabilities in the software controlling floodgates and pumps. The STORM_SAFE project, part of the Interreg North Sea Programme, addresses this challenge by upgrading the digital backbone of Europe’s flood protection systems. Through collaboration between partners in Belgium, Germany, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and Sweden, STORM_SAFE develops scalable and future-proof solutions to ensure the resilience of vital infrastructure in the face of climate change. Join us at EURegionsWeek 2025 to explore how transnational cooperation is contributing to a safer, more resilient Europe.
