European Week of Regions and Cities

Don’t move! Using economic policy to help people stay

Moving beyond the ‘freedom to move’, the session explores how regions can build local economies that grant people the ‘freedom to stay’ through expanding opportunities. Regional politicians will present their views on the challenges their regions face, actions implemented and successes achieved. The necessary framework conditions for regional development will be discussed, addressing not only Cohesion Policy but also other policies at national and EU level. The moderator, an academic expert, will open with a fact-based description of the challenges of regions and citizens left behind, after which the political discussion and open audience exchange will take centre stage.
