Roberta Metsola

  • Roberta Metsola was elected President of the European Parliament in January 2022. In July 2024, she was re-elected to lead the institution for another term. She was first elected to the European Parliament in 2013, re-elected in 2014 and then again in 2019 and 2024.In 2020, she was elected as the First Vice-President of the European Parliament, becoming the first Maltese national to hold the post. Prior to her election as a Member of the European Parliament, President Metsola served within the Permanent Representation of Malta to the European Union and later as the legal advisor to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Professionally she is a lawyer who has specialised in European law and politics.
