The Netherlands is currently facing a severe nitrogen crisis that threatens the health and biodiversity of its natural areas. High nitrogen deposition contributes to the decline of ecosystems—especially in vulnerable nature reserves. In many cross-border areas, protected landscapes in one country lie directly adjacent to zones of intensive agricultural activity in the other. These challenges require joint, transnational approaches. This session will highlight concrete initiatives developed within an Interreg-funded project, aiming to improve collaboration between nature management organizations on both sides of the border.
