European Week of Regions and Cities

Fast-Tracking Climate-Neutral Cities with Positive Energy Districts and Local Digital Twins

The Cities Mission is pushing local stakeholders to test innovative concepts and technologies to reach climate neutrality by 2030. Aarhus, Budapest, Cork, Kozani and Torino are Mission Cities that are piloting the Positive Energy District concept to support energy transition through an ambitious district transformation. The goal is to reach a net-positive clean energy balance in a target location and then share the surplus with other districts, thus fast-tracking city-wide decarbonisation. The workshop will present mid-term results of two EU projects (BIPED and TIPS4PED) where these five cities are working to make PEDs a reality, including through the use of smart tools like digital twins.
