European Week of Regions and Cities

Why Europe needs a multi-hazard approach to disaster risk assessment – practical, regional examples from the MYRIAD-EU project

MYRIAD–EU, an EU H2020 project, developed solutions to help decision-makers adopt a new approach to disaster risk management. Five regions, namely, the Danube, Scandinavia, North Sea, Veneto, and Canary Islands, hosted pilots demonstrating how local action drives systemic change. At the European Week of Regions and Cities 2025, themed “Shaping Tomorrow, Together,” this roundtable will explore how MYRIAD–EU’s multi-sector approach addresses interconnected risks from floods to heatwaves by empowering regions with tools, strategies, and policies. Marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the session will unite experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to shape a resilient Europe
