
Regional partnerships
The regional partnerships organised 7 sessions in their venues on various topics such as: investing in people for regional success; green islands; future housing and inclusive cities; circular economy; interregional cooperation; and urban transformation.
The networking session "The green economy as a development opportunity for EU islands" was organised at the Square Conference Centre on 9 October by the Region of Sardinia, the Balearic islands, the Collectivity of Corsica and the Region of Crete.
Urban Innovative Actions winners
After yesterday's RegioStars ceremony, new EU regional and urban stakeholders have been awarded for their excellence in successfully contributing to the local and regional development, in line with Cohesion Policy priorities. During the afternoon, we found out that the winners of the third Urban Innovative Actions call for projects are:
•Adaptation to climate change: Amsterdam (NL), Barcelona (ES), Greater Manchester Combined Authority (UK), Riba-roja de Túria (ES), Seville (ES), Paris (FR)
•Air quality: Aix-Marseille Provence Metropole (FR), Breda (NL), Helsinki (FI), Ostrava (CZ), Portici (IT)
•Housing: Brussels city capital (BE), Budapest (HU), Ghent (BE), Mataró (ES), Metropole of Lyon (FR)
•Jobs and skills in the local economy: Aveiro (PT), Cluj-Napoca (RO), Cuenca (ES), Eindhoven (NL), Vantaa (FI); Ventspils (LV)
The Covenant of Mayor community
Commissioner Cañete and CoR 1st Vice-president Markku Markkula took the floor at the session jointly organised by the European Committee of the Regions and Covenant of Mayors office. The workshop was followed by a participatory session. Participants coming from EU provinces, regions, associations of local authorities shared inspiring examples on the use of #CohesionPolicy instruments to fund #local action on #sustainableenergy and #adaptation to #climatechange.
Interreg Talks
Other highlight of today's afternoon was the original "Interreg Talks: 6 projects, 1 slam" session where some Interreg projects competed on stage to convince the audience of their added-value. The best performing project on stage was RaiSE, followed by ClimACT and DRIM.
