Session summary

ALMA (Aim, Learn, Master, and Achieve) is a social inclusion initiative which offers vulnerable young people a work-related experience in another EU Member State, as part of a comprehensive project cycle including mentoring, coaching, and training.

During the workshop, three project operators shared their experience in implementing mobility projects for disadvantaged youth. They insisted on the need for close mentoring throughout the various phases of the projects and underlined the truly transformative impact in the life of young people. Through tailor-made support, participants have been able to build their self-esteem and to forge their own skills and future.

The approaches used by the project operators reflect the specificities of the target group. A strong commitment by receiving companies is necessary for the success of the initiative. Notwithstanding the challenges, the high integration rate achieved by ALMA-type of projects indicates that it is a useful tool against social exclusion of young NEETs around Europe.
