- Piotr Całbecki has been serving as the President of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region in Poland since 2006. In the last two elections (2018 and 2024), he achieved the best results in Poland. Since 2025 he serves as the President of the NAT Commission of the European Committee of the Regions.
Before assuming his current role, he held several key positions, including Director of the Department of Development and European Projects at Toruń City Hall, advisor and plenipotentiary of the Mayor of Toruń for cooperation with the World Bank, and Secretary of the Provincial Team for European Integration. He emphasizes the importance of innovative policies, programs, and investments in his approach to managing the region, which has a population of 2 million inhabitants.
President Piotr Całbecki is a recipient of the Gold Cross of Merit for his achievements in the
development of local government in Poland, and the Order of Polonia Restituta, awarded by
the President of the Republic of Poland for outstanding service to the local community and
achievements in local government work. Piotr Całbecki is a member of the European Committee of the Regions, an advisory body to the EU Institutions (European Parliament, European Commission, European Council). Within this EU institution, he has been rapporteur on opinions on the “Future of Common Agricultural Policy”, “Safeguarding Food Security in the European Union,” and the “Fitness Check of the EU Water Framework Directives.”
