Intergenerational fairness is based on meeting present needs while safeguarding the rights of future generations. In recent years, court rulings have challenged governments to do more to meet the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. It remains unclear to what extent these rulings will be followed. Meanwhile, shifting political priorities increasingly place economic concerns above climate action, risking weaker legislation or delayed implementation. This raises the question of whether climate activism can still effectively raise public awareness and build support for the necessary long-term legal commitments.
