Carolina Pérez

  • Carolina Pérez Valverde is an environmental policy expert with more than 25 years of experience in coastal and marine governance. She is currently Head of Policy and Knowledge Sharing at MedCities, where she works to strengthen the role of Mediterranean local authorities in shaping sustainable, resilient, and inclusive cities. Throughout her career, Carolina has combined legal expertise with practical experience in project management, policy development, and institutional strengthening. For over a decade, she directed the EUCC (Coastal & Marine Union) Mediterranean Centre in Barcelona, where she consolidated the Centre as a regional platform for knowledge, cooperation, and capacity-building in coastal and marine governance. Her professional focus has consistently revolved around stakeholder engagement, participatory approaches, ecosystem based management and integrated coastal zone management. She has led and coordinated international projects addressing crucial challenges as marine litter prevention, climate change adaptation, and sustainable urban development. Working closely with coastal authorities, scientific institutions, and civil society across the Mediterranean and Central and Eastern Europe, she has facilitated dialogue, designed training programs, and organized conferences and workshops to build shared solutions.
