European Week of Regions and Cities

Envisioning the industry of the future – Galicia's contribution

A future must be conceived in which European regions are prepared for the challenges they must meet in the next decade. In order to achieve this goal, Galicia wants to stimulate its regional economy through a green and digital model, considering the transformation that industry and its workers must face. To this end, it is essential to coordinate Galicia's various sectoral strategies, gather contributions from all stakeholders and promote public-private partnerships.

Session summary

In 2021 the Government of Galicia ('Xunta de Galicia') promoted the creation of 'Impulsa Galicia', a public-private partnership that leverages the strategic sectors in Galicia to promote business initiatives aimed at transforming the Galician economy through a green and digital model.

Nowadays 'Impulsa Galicia' focuses its efforts on eight major projects related to the generation of green hydrogen, the production of textile fibres from cellulose, the establishment of a biogas generation centre for waste treatment, etc. In order to accomplish its goals, 'Impulsa Galicia' provides advisory services and legal support while it also promotes fundraising, the inclusion of partners, and collaboration between public and private institutions.

Large-scale projects like those of 'Impulsa Galicia' typically require significant investments, logistic support, and appropriate government regulation. Therefore, the public administration plays a crucial role in providing the necessary resources and creating a favourable environment for the success of such industrial initiatives.
