CityCLIM represents the fusion of innovative climate science, advanced weather modelling and new data sources to help cities adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The project uses in-situ and Earth Observation data for a high-resolution weather model to provide various City Climate Services (e.g. Heat Island Simulation and Strategies) for four pilot regions. The City Climate Services target two different stakeholders: the general public and decision makers. For instance, the CityCLIM simulation service provide city planners in the pilot regions with a dynamic platform to virtually test different mitigation strategies against Urban Heat Island (UHI) effects, which can be used by other cities. This event will provide an excellent insight into the CityCLIM project, its mitigation and adaptation services to address urban heat island and other climate related hazards, the background knowledge to understand e.g. the Urban Heat Effect and the Heat Index, a demonstration of the Heat Sensation engine with an opportunity for all participants to demo the application and provide feedback and discuss the possibilities of using the CityCLIM services for other interested cities. The Heat Sensation Engine, which will be demonstrated, is a personalised weather tool or map that allows users to select their thermal comfort zone, and the CityCLIM Advanced Urban Weather Model map shows the optimal areas for the user using a traffic light system.
