Nicola De Michelis

• Nicola De Michelis is a Director in DG REGIO and has held this role since 2014, overseeing structural funds and smart & sustainable growth. Since 2024, he is also the acting Deputy Director-General of DG REGIO. He joined the European Commission in 1996 and has focused on regional policy, including the 2007-2013 and 2014-2020 cohesion policy reforms. He was Deputy Chief of Staff to Commissioner Hahn and Chief of Staff to Commissioner Crețu, where he helped shape the 2021-2027 cohesion policy.
