Does education make you happy? - PK

In Helsinki, we believe education contributes to happiness and well-being by allowing everyone to flourish. Well-being is a prerequisite for learning, but learning itself should also enhance well-being. We will highlight how Helsinki is building a healthy and robust future society with its vision of a desirable future: Education 2030, Helsinki Learns – Future Competences. We want to share our vision and present how a joy of learning can support learners’ growth towards their full potential.

Session summary

Helsinki wants to be the best and most equitable place to learn. We believe that education contributes to tackle segregation and is a key for our city and its residents to succeed and flourish. To reach these aims, we focus not only on teaching and learning key competences and skills but emphasize the importance of social and emotional skills.

Our objective is to strengthen Helsinki residents’ well-being and good learning. The joy of learning can be seen in our everyday activities. We want to build education that is safe and equal, and promotes a sense of community.
Our Strategy Education 2030, Helsinki Learns – Future Competences builds a shared vision of a desirable future. Our goals for the coming years:

Strengthening key competences and skills, and the development of social and emotional skills
Working towards equal learning
Ensuring a sense of community, safety and well-being in everyday life
Allocating resources to staff competence and well-being
Our work to be steered by research and data

We are developing Helsinki that offers a good place for everyone to live, grow, develop and learn in. Education builds trust and hope for futures and gives abilities to navigate the uncertainties.
