On October 8th, 2024, afternoon, Journey Through Douro: A culinary delight from the Port Wine region! The tasting took place at the Albert Borschette Conference Centre in Brussels.

The aim of the stand tasting during the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels was to showcase regional products, culinary traditions and local cuisine from several European regions, including: DOURO. This event provided an opportunity for the DOURO region to promote its unique agricultural products, food specialities and culinary arts, highlighting the diversity and richness of European cultures.

In general, stand tastings are an interesting and informative way to celebrate Europe’s gastronomic diversity, while supporting local communities and sustainable practices.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and European Capital of Wine, the Douro, the Port Wine region, offered rich culinary delights with a showcase of its famous wines and cultural treasures.

During the tasting, participants had the opportunity to sample a variety of dishes and learn about the history and secrets behind each product, while immersing themselves in the sophisticated rural environment of this unique region. By interacting with local chefs from the PURO restaurant, participants further enriched the experience, transforming each eager European into an enthusiastic explorer of the Douro.

With over 7,000 participants on site, over 500 speakers from across Europe and beyond, 156 sessions, an exhibition with 30 stands and 9 regional tastings, and over 180 journalists, it was an excellent celebration and showcase of the cohesion policy in which the DOURO region is part of. The active involvement of participants, interesting debates, inspiring best practices and networking opportunities contributed to making this event truly special.
