European Week of Regions and Cities

A Bite of Transylvania

Transylvania is the place where traditions are still alive. Our ancestors' recipes are refined by our multi-ethnic organic food, influenced over generations, that are offered by our clean environment. They all bring back the fairy tales and the tastes of our childhood. Our table wouldn't be complete without a unique tasting moment: traditional pies and the secret liqueur that makes us special – plum brandy made with soul.

Session summary

Our mission during the European Week of Regions and Cities 2024 in Brussels was to showcase the great gastronomy and creativity by which we keep the traditions of our region alive, even in the digital age.
Dressed in the fine clothes brought from home, we welcomed over 700 guests from all regions of Europe and enjoyed the visit of representatives of the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB), high-ranking officials from the European Commission or our compatriots working in the European institutions.
The sympathetic robot Pepper performed the most famous folk songs in our region, and during the musical breaks he got involved in dialogue with each of those who wanted to find out what products we brought to the stand and answered any curiosities about our food and traditions. The plates were tipped with the delicacies we brought from home. We also served the guests with horinca, and the glasses were filled with precision from the alambique without error by a robotic arm, our ideal waiter.
We were impressed by the endless line of those who couldn't wait to get to our stand, and the big smile they displayed when they left was the quality certificate we need.
Our colleagues from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca helped us set up the stand and provide a great experience , they brought the equipment and robots, creatively integrated into the decor. Maramureş County Council and Sălaj County Council made a special logistic effort to bring the best quality food products to the stand for an impressive number of visitors.
