The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) invited 100 Young Elected Politicians (YEP) from the local and regional level to take part in the European Week of Regions and Cities 2019. The selected group was gender balanced and included young politicians with different political backgrounds from 26 Member States.
Their programme covered attendance at #EURegionsWeek key sessions, discussions with high-level EU politicians, meetings with political groups represented in the European Committee of the Regions and many other networking opportunities. Five of them had a more prominent role and participated as speakers in the high-level debate on the future of the European Union with Klara Dobrev (Vice-President of the European Parliament), Karl-Heinz Lambertz (President of the European Committee of the Regions), Elżbieta Bieńkowska (Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs) during the Opening Session. The Young Elected Politicians shared examples of best practices and their views and ideas on the future role of regions and cities in Europe. The group also had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of how the EU functions and to build contacts with more than 600 local, regional, national and EU politicians present at the event.
