Art above water: Tricks depicts Father Bernatek's Footbridge, which was co-financed by the European Union. The footbridge connects the two banks of the Vistula River and provides a people- and bicycle-friendly route. Enriched with sculptures by Jerzy Kędziora from the series ‘Between Heaven and Earth’, it blends in with the surrounding landscape, being at the same time a commentary on it and a prominent artistic element connecting both art with utility.

An EU-funded project restored and preserved the historic fortress island of Spinalonga. This initiative holds strategic importance for regional development in Greece, as Spinalonga uniquely blends sustainable tourism with cultural heritage, providing a vital boost to the local economy. In my photo I shed light not only on this European Union project but also on Cohesion policy, emphasizing its cultural significance and impact on the community.

The EU-funded project revitalized Nicosia’s historic centre through the renovation of architecturally significant buildings and the creation of public spaces. Following earlier projects co-financed by the EU, the aim was to restore neglected areas within the city. These efforts have attracted young people and fostered new businesses. As someone from Nicosia, the last divided capital in the world, witnessing the deterioration of my hometown was deeply painful. However, the renovation process brought a sense of hope. The preservation of Nicosia’s historic charm is a powerful reminder of our heritage.

Drought and deforestation are rampant in the Diyarbakir region and do not spare the inhabitants. Nor the storks. In partnership with the EU, a Parisian solidarity travel association has mandated six young French people to participate in the protection of these gliding birds in Turkey. On a morning, the tractor rolls down in a cloud of dust. Volunteers are working to collect the stones from the trailer, which will constitute Bağacık's first nest.
