Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs: Celebrating 15 years

EYE celebrates 15 years

Imagine having a business idea that won’t let you rest – a vision that could change the world but hasn’t gained traction yet. How do you bring that idea to life? Where do you find the inspiration, knowledge, and contacts to succeed? Thankfully, you don’t have to go it alone. The Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) programme has been helping young talents turn their dreams into reality by learning from experienced business leaders.

This year, the programme celebrates a significant milestone – 15 years of fostering entrepreneurship, supporting thousands of young talents, and helping launch new businesses across Europe. If you’re dreaming of starting your own business, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Since its launch, the programme has facilitated over 12,500 business exchanges across 40 countries.

In 2023, a record-breaking 5,000 applications were submitted, reflecting the growing demand for international business opportunities. In total, the programme has received over 53,000 applications throughout its history.

What is Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs?

The initiative allows aspiring entrepreneurs to work with an experienced business owner in Europe for 1 to 6 months. It’s an invaluable opportunity to see how successful businesses operate, participate in daily operations, and gain insights from industry leaders.

Entrepreneurs with less than three years of experience and a solid business plan can participate in the programme, regardless of their field. Host entrepreneurs must be experienced business leaders with at least three years of experience running a micro, small, or medium-sized enterprise.

Marijana Juras, a representative of the European Commission's DG GROW said : “Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is not just about learning the ropes of business; it also builds strong, lasting relationships. New entrepreneurs don’t just gain knowledge but also find inspiration and explore business opportunities."

The programme also benefits host entrepreneurs, bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to their businesses. As an international exchange, it opens the door to cross-border collaboration and market expansion.

 Why is this programme important?

"With 97% of participants rating their experience as successful, EYE is clearly making a lasting impact. It builds bridges and strengthens connections across Europe, offering real opportunities for business growth," Juras said.

The programme’s international scope is impressive. Entrepreneurs from non-EU countries such as Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, and Turkey are also eligible, allowing for diverse connections and new market exploration. Best of all, there’s no age limit—entrepreneurs of all ages can participate, whether they're starting out or launching a second career.
