Tackling fragmentation of local government towards shared sustainable community solutions

Tackling fragmentation of local government with ESI fund support: Italian experiences from southern to northern regions. Thanks to the ITALIAE project, the issue of administrative fragmentation has been further addressed, promoting local government optimisation processes. The project supported concrete innovation and sustainability solutions at community level. Multi-level governance, sustainability, innovation and inclusion were the driving forces behind the processes implemented.

Session summary

National and Eu efforts towards tackling administrative fragmentation proved to be effective, but still need to be more effective, to broadly impact local authorities within the member States, well aware that there is not a single solution suitable for any context.
In this perspective, experiences and knowledge sharing can play a pivotal role in a process of common growth, towards a more performing EU territorial governance.
EU Commission, in its networking capacity, is essential for the support to local authorities in the mentioned growth and sharing process.
