European Week of Regions and Cities

High-Level thematic session "Regions got talent"

Shrinking labour force, low higher education rates, and youth emigration: Europe faces significant demographic challenges. These could lead to increased territorial disparities and hinder the EU's competitiveness. Cohesion funds’ track record in uplifting communities and helping them facing new challenges will be showcased in this High-level session. This is the opportunity to rummage through the European Commission’s demography toolbox. Discover the Harnessing Talent Platform and the Talent Booster Mechanism and all the tools regions have to train, retain, and attract skilled individuals. In the face of the demographic transition, this Session offers an overview of concrete tailor-made, place-based solutions to prevent the rise of new disparities. It is an opportunity to reflect once again on the ways Cohesion funds can empower local communities by providing conditions for skill activation and resource utilisation. This high-level session will showcase successful projects supported by these funds, demonstrating effective local solutions to structural challenges.
