Joao Pedro GOUVEIA

  • Dr. João Pedro Gouveia is an enviro -nmental engineer with a Ph.D. in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies focused on Sustainable Energy Systems, from NOVA School of Science and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal. He was for four years a senior research fellow for energy systems at Project Drawdown (USA) (2016- 2020). He has worked and lead research in over 10 European Union-funded research and consultancy projects, 1 USA based, and 10 nationally funded by Portuguese public and private authorities on various topics such as climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, sustainable city districts, energy poverty; energy efficiency measures in public buildings; national and cities’ energy systems' transitions toward low carbon economies; and integrated infrastructure for CO2 transport and storage. João has also worked on several policy support studies for the Portuguese Ministry of Environment and Economy on climate change, low carbon pathways, and renewable energy technology assessment that resulted in policy documents. As a consequence of these projects, he has contributed to the writing of more than 40 reports (public and private). João is the author of over 30 peer-reviewed articles in high impact factor journals (h-index of 20 with over 1900 citations on google scholar). He has contributed to presentations on over 100 national and international conferences, from which he has been an invited speaker/keynote to more than 40. He has 6 book chapters and 1 book (a New York Times Best Seller translated to over 8 languages). He organized over 20 events like workshops and seminars. From 2017-2010 he was on the Management Committee of EU COST Action on Energy Poverty (ENGAGER), and since January 2021 he is part of the Coordination team of EPAH - EU Energy Poverty Advisory Hub. He was one of the founders and Board Member of DERA: Drawdown Europe Research Association (2019) and of the Portuguese Association for Energy Economics (APEEN).
