European Week of Regions and Cities

THE ENERGY TRANSITION IN EUROPE’S REGIONS: HOW TO MEET INCREASED DEMAND FOR CLEAN ELECTRICITY, HYDROGEN, AND P2X?

Europe’s energy transition is reshaping economies and industries, driven by the urgency to cut emissions and reduce fossil fuel dependence. Electricity demand is set to skyrocket in the medium-term, while hydrogen and power-to-X emerge as tools to decarbonise heavy industry where direct electrification is not feasible. Regions are at the forefront of this shift, connecting citizens, industry, and infrastructure, but need tailored solutions to their challenges. This session will gather EU officials, experts, and regional leaders to exchange experiences, debate how regional action aligns with EU energy policy, and discuss how to improve multilevel governance for a place-based energy future.
