- Michael Stierle is Chief Economist of the Task Force Housing of the European Commission. Beforehand he has been leading country teams of DG ECFIN performing economic surveillance and was Deputy Mission Chief for various countries facing economic challenges. He also coordinated the macroeconomic forecast of the Commission, was macro economist for Germany and gave economic advice on regional policy. He also worked at the International Monetary Fund, where he gained programme experience. When working as economic research assistant at the Research Institute for Public Administration in Speyer he founded the International Network for Economic Research, INFER, which he chaired for several years. After obtaining his PhD from Speyer University he worked in the private financial sector, first as Chief Economist of Independent Research and then as Economist at Sal. Oppenheim.
